Why isn't this a Conservative/Tea Party issue?

Remember when gay marriage passed in liberal, big Hollywood, California, only to have it taken away when it went to a vote by the people? That's because I, like most conservatives believe not just in states rights, but the rights of those people in the states to vote on issues like this. Just because the state legislature pushed this law through doesn't mean it represented the voters.
